Historians surmise that the tribes represented by Emperor Yan and Huang inhabited the Wei river basin(in present-day Shannxi provine) in the late period of China’s primitive society. They later moved to the Hebei plains. Of the numerous Chinese tribes remote antiquity, those led by these two semi-historical and semi-legendary emperors were the most advance in the economy and culture.
