“Chinese hot” in Vancouver

According to Dong Sumin who has engaged in Chinese teaching for a long term, "Chinese hot" in Canada has been mainly motivated by the rapid development of economy in China mainland.

As the economic recession hanging over the whole world, the economic growth rate in many countries dropped greatly and even negative growth happened in lots of countries including Taiwan. China economy, however, keeps growing in an incredible rate of about 8%. People realized that learning no Chinese, they would suffer losses when facing the new and huge market of mainland China.

In addition to this reason, Dong believed that another purpose for learning Chinese considered by most parents is to let their children to learn more about Chinese culture so that they can pass it on.
