Zhang Ji(the time of his birth and death unknown)was a poet of the Tang Dynasty.While a few of his poems are the reflection of peoplels sufferings during the war and social unrest,most of his verses are about his travel experience and natural scenery,all of which are in a natural and homely style with profound implications.Because of his poem entitled "A Night Mooring Near Maple Bridge" and "temple on cold mountain" as mentioned in the peom have been popular torist spots for hun dreds of years.

This poem was written by Zhang during his travel in the south.One night his boat was moored near the Maple Bridge to the west of present Suzhou City,Jiansu Province.During that cold and lonely night on the boat,he wrote these famous lines:
